London's fifth busiest airport behind Heathrow, Gatwick, Stansted and Luton,
London City Airport is located in the Docklands area.
An Airport in the Heart of London
London City is the only London airport to fall within the City of London boundary, and since opening 1987 it has grown to the extent that it now serves around 1.5million passengers each year. These are mostly business passengers, who are extremely well catered for by a facility that has earned the 'Best Business Terminal' award four times.
Passengers can expect full complimentary Wi-Fi access in all airport lounges, as well as a range of restaurants, bars, cafes and shops both before and after the security gates. London City Airport ably provides everything the discerning business traveller needs.
The early noughties were a key period for London City Airport, as it celebrated its 15th birthday, its ten millionth passenger and was able to look forward to easier access provided by the Docklands Light Railway. Since then, any attempt at expansion has been met with fierce local opposition, a situation which limits the length of the runway and therefore the destinations which can be visited.
London City Airport Destinations
As a business airport, London City certainly targets the premier business destinations. The only non-European flight available goes to New York JFK, while key destinations throughout the continent include Zurich, Frankfurt, Paris (Orly and Charles de Gaulle), Munich, Geneva and Milan.
Domestic flights also run regularly, mostly to important Northern cities such as Manchester and Edinburgh.
